L’opera di Emmanuel Mounier è una delle più originali e discusse del pensiero politico cattolico del ‘900. Non solo per i temi trattati e per le novità che essi presentano, ma soprattutto per l’apertura che essi mostrano nei confronti di ogni umanesimo non cristiano che, pur non essendo mai completamente accettato, è comunque valorizzato in tutti quei punti che costituiscono un autentico miglioramento dell’uomo. Mounier può così essere definito come ‹‹l’uomo del dialogo››, qualità questa, presente in molti studiosi cattolici del nostro secolo che hanno sorretto ed ispirato il Pontificato di Paolo VI. Il pensiero di Mounier si situa sull’orizzonte della grande riflessione cristiana, non fine a se stessa ma in costante confronto con le prospettive ideologiche (individualismo e collettivismo) e con il corredo di tradizioni filosofiche e umanistiche che nel pensiero antico, medievale e moderno hanno tracciato la strada per l’idea fondante l’approccio di Mounier. Questa idea è riassumibile nel personalismo e nelle argomentazioni a sostegno del primato della persona umana rispetto alle conseguenze negative promosse dal collettivismo e dall’individualismo borghese.


The works  of Emmanuel Mounier constitute one of the most original and most commented on corpus’ of thought within Catholic political thought of the 20^th century. This is not only due to the topics discussed, and to the novelty that they represent, but above all because of the openness that they demonstrate towards every form of non-Christian humanism that are, even if not ever being completely accepted, nevertheless treated with respect where they focus on the authentic progress of man. Mounier can be defined as “the man of dialogue”, a quality present in many Catholic scholars of this century that have supported and inspired the pontificate of Paul VI. The thought of Mounier situates itself within the general tradition of Christian reflection, not as an end in itself but in constant interaction with ideological positions (individualist and collectivist) and with the help of philosophical and humanistic traditions that in ancient, medieval and modern thought have laid the groundwork for the fundamental idea of Mounier’s approach. This idea can be summed up in the word personalism and in the lines of argument that uphold the primacy of the human person with respect to the negative consequences of collectivism and bourgeois individualism.
